Living Room for the City
V&A Museum of Design Dundee will be a living room for the city and we want you to be part of it. Our architect Kengo Kuma, described V&A Dundee as a “Living Room for the City”. And so the idea for our very first community engagement project was born.
Everyone has design in their living room – the place you like to relax and spend time. We’d like you to share your favourite objects, styles and design ideas with us. And it doesn’t have to be a traditional living room in your home. It might be where you hang out and spend your free time; it might be somewhere at work, or your studio; it could be at your friend’s house, or youth club. Really it’s the place where you feel most ‘you’, where you’re surrounded by the things you love.
Remember to add a comment about the design of the room or the object e.g. why you like it, what you've brought to the design and what design means to you.
So post a photo of your #LivingRoom and help us reveal the designs that shape our lives.
The Living Room for the City exhibition takes place at the Hannah Maclure Centre, Abertay University, Top Floor, Abertay Student Centre, 1 - 3 Bell Street, DD1 1HP, 16 – 29 August.
Free family workshops and activities: 2-4pm on Sat 16, Sun 17, Sat 23 and Sun 24 August 2014. All welcome, all materials provided.
Living Room for the City is the first V&A Dundee project to benefit from funding from players of People’s Postcode Lottery. On behalf of its players the charity lottery presented the Museum with a cheque for £100,000 for community outreach in January this year, and the success of Living Room for the City has led to a further £50,000 to be pledged in June towards future community activities. We are immensely grateful for the support from players of People’s Postcode Lottery which has enabled the project and exhibition to happen.
