Design in Motion
In 2015, over 12,000 people visited Design in Motion, our first national touring exhibition, which took the work of seven of Scotland’s most exciting contemporary designers to 85 locations across Scotland and then on to the V&A in London.
Design in Motion, a collaboration with the Travelling Gallery, was part of our pre-opening programme. The designers featured all used digital technologies to push the boundaries of their discipline, enabling them to experiment, play and innovate. The exhibition demonstrated how design can be put to work to reconstruct our heritage, visualise the unseen, and create products not previously possible
Design in Motion was developed in partnership with the Travelling Gallery and generously supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, The Mathew Trust, Heritage Lottery Fund, Creative Scotland, The Scottish Government, and City of Edinburgh Council. Travelling Gallery Curator Alison Chisholm said the Design in Motion tour was a rare move away from the group’s roots in contemporary art - see the full interview here.
Design in Motion visited over 40 schools and colleges across Scotland, meeting pupils, teachers and students through our scheduled tours of the exhibition.
