Design in Motion
The Travelling Gallery has been bringing exhibitions of contemporary art and design to communities throughout Scotland since 1978 when the service was first piloted by the Scottish Arts Council (SAC). In 1997 the SAC passed on the management of the Travelling Gallery to the City of Edinburgh Council who continue to run it as a national venue with Regular Funding from Creative Scotland. The current vehicle was built in 2007 with funds from the National Lottery and City of Edinburgh Council.
The Travelling Gallery is delighted to be partnering with V&A Dundee to tour Design in Motion around the country. The new look Travelling Gallery shows Sophia George’s William Morris-inspired Strawberry Thief imagery on three sides and an image of how the new V&A Dundee museum will look on the fourth side.
After this tour has finished in June the Travelling Gallery will be commissioning an artist to design a new wrap for the vehicle which will be unveiled for the Travelling Gallery autumn exhibition – a group show of Scottish Turner Prize winners and nominees, in association with Tramway, Glasgow.
