Design Dundee Ltd (DDL)
Design Dundee Limited (DDL) was established in 2010 to support the development and delivery of V&A Dundee. The founding partners are Dundee City Council, the University of Dundee, Abertay University, Scottish Enterprise and the V&A.
The objectives for DDL are to advance:
- the arts, heritage, culture & science
- education & research
- citizenship & community development.
The construction of V&A Dundee is managed by Dundee City Council, who are the contracting authority for the build project. On completion the building will be leased, by Dundee City Council, to DDL. DDL is responsible for creating the museum experience, the recruitment of experienced staff to manage current and future programmes and exhibitions, and the museum’s ongoing financial sustainability.
DDL is a company registered in Scotland (Company Number: 370598) and a registered Scottish Charity, No: SC041219.
The V&A was established in 1852 and is today regarded as the number one museum of art and design in the world.
The University of Dundee (ranked in the world’s top 200 universities) includes the highly regarded Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design and School of Architecture - consistently rated in the top 10% of the UK’s art and design colleges over the last decade.
Abertay University was the first in the world to offer degrees in computer games technology. Its School of Arts, Media and Computer Games is the UK’s first centre of excellence in the subject and has contributed to Dundee's reputation in gaming innovation and digital design.
Dundee City Council has overseen a cultural renaissance in the City over the past 20 years. Dundee Contemporary Arts, Dundee Rep Theatre, the Space (home to the Scottish School of Contemporary Dance), and the recently reopened and refurbished McManus Galleries are playing a part in re-establishing Dundee as a centre for art and culture.
Scottish Enterprise is supporting a number of initiatives to promote Scotland's digital media and tourism industries. Together with Dundee City Council, Scottish Enterprise is driving the Dundee Waterfront regeneration programme.
